#1 - Fishing

Fishing at Vygeboom Dam is only a pleasure since the dam is clear and clean and there is quite a variety of fish to be caught. You can fish for carp, babel, eels, bass, yellows and grass carp. A valid fishing license can be organised at Oppidam. You have the option of renting a boat, houseboat or kayak to fish from or simply fish from the side of the dam.

#2 - Houseboats

OppiDam has a fleet of 4 self-drive houseboats that each cater for up to five people. The houseboats are equipped with most modern conveniences to ensure that your stay is comfortable and enjoyable. The cabin is equipped with a double bed, bench seat and a single bed suitable for children. The dining area and kitchen has a gas stove, fridge, sink and the essential cutlery and crockery. The open lounge deck has enough shade and a gas braai. You can also utilize the upper deck for sunbathing or simply enjoy the scenery around the dam.

#3 - Camping

The best way to enjoy staying at a dam is camping. At OppiDam you can hire any of 23 waterfront campsites that comes equipped with electricity and braai facilities. In addition, OppiDam also offers 6 caravans on site for hire. They are all fully equipped for self-catering. One caravan sleeps three people and all the others four.

There are also six tents for hire that can sleep three people each. These tents are in close vicinity and can be hired exclusively without any other guests. The area has its own ablution facilities, kitchen and boma.

#4 - Kayaking

For the more adventurous, OppiDam offers kayaks or paddle boats for hire. This is not only for your own enjoyment in spending time on the water, but you can even fish from the kayak. This is an ideal introduction for children on the water and can be a whole lot of fun. Be sure to wear a life jacket.

#5 - Quad biking

If you like quad biking and doing it as part of family eco fun, the trails around Vygeboom Dam with Ommidam Quad Adventures will be to your liking. This can be organised and booked at the reception office. You will be provided with a guide that will teach you all the ins and outs of quad biking.

#6 - Ararat Restaurant and Bar

Staying or visiting a dam usually goes hand in hand with a braai, but if you feel like some time off from cooking, you have the convenience of a very nice and slightly different restaurant at OppiDam. Ararat Restaurant and Bar is an old houseboat that has been restored to serve as a restaurant. It can be utilized for a take-away or a sit down meal. They serve a variety of meals such as burgers, pizza, breakfast, meat and fish dishes to mention but a few. There is a fully equipped bar with TV’s situated in convenient spots so that you don’t miss that all important rugby match. The restaurant also has specials served every Wednesday.

#7 - Badplaas Aventura

Should you for some reason get bored with all the activities on the dam, you and the family can opt to spend some time on land at the Badplaas Aventura Resort. The resort offers hot and cold swimming pools – three kiddies pool, 2 warm and 1 cold pool. In addition, it has tube rapids (Rinkhals), super tube and speed slide. If you prefer to swim indoors there is an indoor spa with a number of hot pools. In the surrounding area of the pools there is volleyball, a fufi slide, mini putt-putt, and go carts.

The resort also offers horse trails and quad bike trails in the Emanzana Nature reserve where you can get close and personal with the rhino population. If you are not that adventurous, you can opt for a game drive. Badplaas also has tennis courts and a golf course. If you want to visit the resort arrangements can be made for entrance at OppiDam.
